CAAs

How to do the Care Area Assessment in VISUAL

In VISUAL MDS 3.0, click CAAs/CATs. You will see the 20 CAA categories.  If there is a picture of a red siren next to it , that means it was triggered.
You can click each CAA to view the responses or fill out the appropriate fields on the MDS.
If the field is in green, it means it is used to calculate your RUGS score.  If the field has red lettering, it can affect  your CAA.  If it’s both green and red, it affects both the RUGS score and the CAA.
Click the Review button next to each CAA.  Notice the two tabs at the top.  You can toggle back and forth between the Notes page and the Review of Indicators page.
The Notes page is where you can do the CAA summary.  (Input from resident/family/representative, analysis of findings, and care plan considerations.) You can also click the check mark in the middle if you choose to care plan for this item, and/or the check mark at the bottom to transfer this information to section V of the MDS assessment.
The Review of Indicators tab is the checklist from the RAI manual.  It shows items relating to the particular CAA, whether or not it is an MDS item.  If the item was triggered on the MDS, you will see a green checkmark on the left.  If you want to apply it to a care plan, click the button on the right.

W2 Health Insurance Premium Reporting

New field required for the 2013 W2 forms:

Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, all employers filing 250 or more W2 forms for the year 2012 are required to report to their employees the total cost of their group health plan coverage.  This includes both employer and employee contributions.  This is for informational purposes only and any coverage provided by the employer will not be subject to income tax.
Instructions to set this up in the CHARTS payroll software can be found by clicking here or in the year end notes from patch 70.

MDS 3.0 screen refreshing

DID YOU KNOW....

When filling out any MDS assessment in VISUAL, every answer automatically gets saved.  This is wonderful, because many answers affect other fields on the MDS, so the skip patterns can be automatically populated. However, if you are an advanced user, you can turn off this feature to save time.
Click the down arrow at the end of the row with the selector tab. Go to Preferences, and click 5. users.  Uncheck the first box, "MDS 3.0 Validation" and click save.

Once this option is turned off, though, please be aware that your answers won't be saved until you click the red "thumbs down" button.  If there are no errors or inconsistencies, the button will change to a green "thumbs up", letting you know that it is ok to proceed to your next section.
